OF ROYAL OAK SOUTH
What activities are offered?
We offer a wide variety of events for mothers and their children Monday through Friday, during daytime hours. We strive to offer activities that will be of interest to children of all age groups.
Annual Service Project
At least once a year, our chapter participates in a service project to help others and support our local communities. In past years we have collected hygiene products for I Support the Girls - Detroit, collected back to school supplies for local school children in need, participated in canned food drives, and adopted a park that we continue to clean up annually. If you have a fundraising idea or a charity that you would like us to consider, please email the Administrative Vice President at email@example.com.
Members plan meetings at kid-friendly locales around the area. Past activities have included trips to the Detroit Zoo, libraries, nature centers, museums, splash pads, and parks in the area. We also plan an annual fire station tour and other special events.
MOMS Night Out (MNO)
One night per month Moms go out without the kids. In the past we have met at restaurants, seen a movie, tried our luck at escape rooms, made works of art at creative workshops, and gone to comedy clubs. We also have occasional couples nights and weekend family events.
Monthly Business Meeting
On the second Thursday of each month members gather for a business meeting. During the meeting we take care of issues that need to be voted on, while the children play nearby. We will occasionally have guest speakers who speak for 30 minutes or less on a topic of interest to members.
Playdates in Members' Homes
At-home playdates typically are at 10 am or 3:30 pm, and can even have a theme. Hosts invite members to their home, and have the option of requesting an age limit (e.g. infants up to one year), or placing a space limit on the event. Normally the host serves a light snack and something to drink. The moms get to relax while the kids get to play with different toys! We encourage all members to host a playdate a few times throughout the year. It can be hosted outside of the home too, like at a park.
We love to celebrate and each year we plan several parties. In the past these have included a Halloween party, Valentine's Day party, Easter egg hunt, and a family end of the year party.
Our book club meets every other month to discuss a different book. Meetings take place during the day, so children are always welcome.
Sunshine Meals are a benefit of membership for moms who need a little help after the birth of a child, health complications, surgery, or bereavement. Members volunteer to make a meal and deliver it to the mom's house.
Whether it's a doctors appointment or a dinner without children, the babysitting co-op allows parents to get free babysitting from other members using a credit system.
Below is an example of a typical monthly calendar. Activities and events change each month and with the season.
